Job Summary
Paralegal for Immigration Practice Unit supporting detained and non-detained non-citizen clients; responsibilities include intake and assessment of new cases, translation and documentation, drafting affidavits and bond requests, assisting attorneys with filings to immigration court and USCIS, legal research, drafting motions, maintaining case files and databases, coordinating with partner agencies, and community outreach. Requires education in paralegal studies (Bachelor or Associate with paralegal certification or equivalent), experience with indigent clients in immigration/criminal justice, and strong Spanish/Portuguese language skills; proficiency in MS Office and Westlaw; willingness to travel to court and detention facilities; capacity to work in a high-volume, professional environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Associate degree with paralegal certification or equivalent
- Experience with indigent clients in immigration and/or criminal justice proceedings preferred
- Familiarity with EOIR and USCIS preferred
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Westlaw; basic administrative and clerical duties; willingness to learn new systems
- Willingness to travel to court, immigration detention facilities, and Philadelphia jails if necessary
