Job Summary
Draft, serve, and respond to discovery and subpoenas while tracking deadlines, maintaining logs, and ensuring HIPAA compliance. Intake, organize, and summarize medical records to create chronologies, identifying gaps regarding prior injuries, pre-existing conditions, and causation. Coordinate with providers, vendors, and experts to identify treating sources, manage IMEs, and prepare expert notebooks. Conduct legal and factual research using LexisNexis or Westlaw to draft pleadings, deposition summaries, and trial materials. Manage calendars for depositions, hearings, and mediations, scheduling travel and coordinating with courts, clients, and opposing counsel. E-file in state and federal courts, prepare exhibit binders, and arrange court reporters and interpreters. Requires 3+ years in General Liability defense with strong organization and technical proficiency in case management systems.
Required Qualifications
- Proven proficiency in defense General Liability discovery and subpoena practice
- Expertise reviewing medical records, preparing chronologies, and mapping providers; ability to spot gaps and escalation issues
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail across multiple matters
- Professional written and verbal communication; effective stakeholder management
- Technical proficiency with LexisNexis or Westlaw and at least one records platform (e.g., Magna Record, Ontellus, or comparable); comfort with case/document management systems and standard office software
- Resourceful, proactive, and able to work independently within established procedures
- 3+ years paralegal experience in General Liability defense, including discovery and subpoena practice and medical-records management
- Trial-prep exposure (exhibit lists, witness prep, trial notebooks)
- Existing network of experts/providers or a defined plan to develop one
- Prior experience with the firm's (or similar) case-management system
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience
