Job Summary
Assist attorneys with the preparation of a civil case for trial by obtaining, reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing legal documentation. Manage the discovery process, conduct records management, and schedule depositions and meetings with clients, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel, and court reporters. Identify and evaluate potential experts, track document requests, and create chronologies while organizing and maintaining case files. Perform legal research to inform attorney decisions and ensure all functions comply with client guidelines. Maintain positive relationships with firm attorneys, co-counsel, clients, and vendors while keeping accurate time records to meet a 1,650 annual billable hours requirement.
Required Qualifications
- substantive familiarity with the litigation process (i.e., case management, discovery, databases, privilege logs, court filings, e-filing, cite checking)
- capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- well-developed Microsoft Office skills
- ability to solve problems
- communicate well with all levels of the FMG team
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Certificate in Paralegal studies
- 5-7 years defense litigation paralegal experience
- Civil litigation, and/or employment litigation experience
- Familiarity with performing research tasks using web-based legal research services
- Proficiency in an electronic file setting, comfortable with a paperless system
- Must successfully pass a background/drug screen
- The ability to sit upright and use a computer for eight hours or more a day five days a week
- The ability to cope with and manage stress
- Typing at least 35 words per minute using both hands
