Job Summary
The paralegal will support the Department of Justice legal team assigned to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Program (RECA), working in the RECA Call Center to answer questions from RECA applicants, interpret RECA regulations, and contribute to eDiscovery workflows. Responsibilities include compiling, preparing, and summarizing materials for attorneys; maintaining case files; performing simple legal and factual research; indexing and tracking claimant materials; reviewing documents for legal sufficiency; and utilizing document databases and tools (eDiscovery resources, LEXIS/Westlaw) to support investigations and motions. The role emphasizes collaboration with DOJ staff, adherence to established procedures, and opportunities for professional growth through tuition reimbursement and certifications. The posting notes a requirement for US citizenship and up to 10% travel within the Continental US, with pay in the SCA framework and a minimum hourly wage of $25.58/hour.
Required Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate or JD or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school
- At least one year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may substitute for the paralegal certificate
- At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience related to the task order
- Sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
- Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
- Proficiency with standard computer applications including word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to maintain case files and handle indexing, tracking, and control of materials; attention to detail
- DOJ MBI must be obtainable; US Citizenship required
- Automated legal support experience valued (desirable)
