Job Summary
Answer questions from RECA applicants calling the 1-800 line and interpret regulations pertaining to the RECA statute. Compile, prepare, and summarize relevant materials for attorneys while maintaining case files and performing simple legal and factual research. Index, track, and control case-related materials including claimant files, and review documents for legal sufficiency according to established guidelines. Work collaboratively with the Department of Justice legal team assigned to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Program to complete assignments with established procedures.
Required Qualifications
- paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study
- One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate
- at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order)
- basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum
- sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
- basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure
- DOJ MBI must be obtainable
- US Citizenship
