Job Summary
Paraeducator for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program at Wallace Elementary School. Supports the Social Emotional Learning paraeducators in accelerating student growth in social-emotional competencies and maintaining a positive school climate. Collaborates with administration, counselors, and teachers to implement SEL frameworks, design school-wide interventions, supervise students in multiple settings, assist with instructional tasks, and document student progress. Requires be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent and one of: AA degree or higher, 72 quarter credits (100 level or above), ETS paraeducator assessment, or an apprenticeship; must complete required training within program timelines. Eligible benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; PTO and other benefits per collective bargaining agreement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include collaboration, data collection, progress reporting, confidentiality, and supervising students; EDUCATION options and ongoing professional collaboration with staff and SEL department are emphasized. Location is Wallace Elementary, Kelso School District, WA; incumbents work 7.0 hours/day, 190 days/year, with potential hour reductions due to district calendar changes.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least eighteen years of age, hold a high school diploma and/or equivalent, AND must meet at least one of the following options:
- hold an AA degree or higher from an accredited college or university; OR
- have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits — all at a 100 level or above at an accredited college or university; OR
- received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment OR
- have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
- Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teachers, colleagues, parents & students
- Demonstrated ability to be patient, dedicated, reliable, mature, and committed
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various groups and gain consensus related to project implementation and other problem solving
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in activities and responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under the direction of the classroom teacher, while accepting direction and constructive criticism.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically
- Demonstrated ability to work with student records and data collection
- Ability to effectively supervise students in all school areas
- Willingness to participate in classroom team meetings, in-service offerings and local workshops
- Demonstrated ability to use proper grammar and spelling in written and oral communication and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to use multiple communication systems such as chrome books, email and navigate google drives
