Paraeducator Specialist @ Special Services Department (2 Positions)

Job Summary

Coordinate specialized instruction and supervision for special needs students in various programs, including remote related services. Support certified staff by implementing individualized educational programs, enforcing behavior plans, and ensuring safety during arrival, departure, and classroom activities. Intervene effectively in behavioral crises using approved techniques and provide personal care assistance for medically fragile children. Maintain accurate records, monitor compliance with school rules, and respond with compassion to student needs while working independently with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution
  • pass ETS test
  • ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff
  • ability to accurately keep records
  • willingness to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care
  • ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
  • willingness to receive Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Non-violent Restraint training
  • willingness to obtain/possess a current First Aid card
  • Physical ability to perform required duties
  • willingness to receive training in crisis intervention and/or restraining techniques
  • willingness to assist with medically fragile children
  • willingness to work with students with behavior difficulties
  • ability to interpret as needed if the individual possesses multiple language skills
  • Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI
  • successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators within the first year of employment

  • ability to work effectively with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certificated staff
  • ability to apply appropriate discipline according to district procedures
  • willingness to provide emergency first aid as necessary
