Job Summary
Support special education students by supervising their arrival and departure, monitoring classroom activities for safety, and enforcing behavior plans according to district procedures. Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to help students achieve learning objectives outlined in their individualized educational programs while building positive relationships with peers. Intervene effectively when students act out, utilizing approved crisis intervention and restraint techniques, and assist medically fragile children as needed. Maintain accurate records, respond to daily email communications, and ensure compliance with school rules. Complete required Washington State Fundamental Course of Study within the first year of employment and hold a current First Aid card.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution
- Pass ETS test
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to be accurate and efficient at completing tasks on time without constant/direct supervision
- Ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff
- Ability to work effectively with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certificated staff
- Ability to accurately keep records
- Willingness to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care
- Ability to interpret as needed if the individual possesses multiple language skills
- Willingness to receive Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Non-violent Restraint training
- Willingness to obtain/possess a current First Aid card
- Physical ability to perform required duties
- Willingness to receive training in crisis intervention and/or restraining techniques
- Willingness to assist with medically fragile children
- Willingness to work with students with behavior difficulties
- Criminal history clearance through Washington State Patrol and FBI
- Within the first year of employment, successfully complete the Washington State Fundamental Course of Study for Paraeducators provided by the District
