Job Summary

Supervise special needs students individually or in small groups to communicate learning objectives outlined in their IEPs under certified staff supervision. Build positive relationships with students, encourage peer interactions, and apply appropriate discipline according to district procedures and behavior plans. Effectively intervene and control students acting out by using approved restraining methods and provide emergency first aid as necessary. Monitor activities to ensure safety and compliance with school rules, including supervision upon arrival and departure. Maintain excellent attendance, respond to daily email messages, and accurately keep records. Work independently to solve problems with minimal supervision while following prescribed behavior plans and duty schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum of 72 college quarter credits from a nationally accredited institution
  • pass ETS test
  • ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • ability to relate in a positive manner with students, parents, and staff/teachers, supervisory staff
  • ability to accurately keep records
  • ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
  • ability to interpret as needed if the individual possesses multiple language skills
  • Willingness to receive Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Non-violent Restraint training
  • Willingness to obtain/possess a current First Aid card required
  • Willingness to receive training in crisis intervention and/or restraining techniques
  • Willingness to assist with medically fragile children
  • Willingness to work with students with behavior difficulties
  • Ability to interpret as needed if the individual possesses multiple language skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Must be able to work effectively with small groups or individual students under the supervision of certificated staff
  • Ability to accurately keep records
  • Must be willing to respond with compassion to a student needing assistance with personal care, including verbally coaching students trhough such situations
  • Ability to interpret as needed if the individual possesses multiple language skills
