Job Summary
Para-Educator, Special Education supports a certificated teacher in a middle-to-higher need SPED classroom, assisting with instruction to individuals or small groups, helping students meet IEP goals, attending to health and personal care needs, transporting students as needed, and performing clerical classroom duties. Positions emphasize specialized duties for Deaf and Hard of Hearing or Visual Impairment supports (ASL/PSE/MCE for DHH; Braille, tactile equipment for VI) and require collaboration with teachers, parents, and other staff to maintain a safe, engaging learning environment and accurate records. The role is 0.8 FTE (part-time) and involves duties from Pre-K through Young Adult in Special Education settings, with potential for professional development opportunities toward instructional specialist or certificated roles.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience working with children in a classroom setting (preferred)
- Willingness to complete at least 15 hours of additional training as required to perform the duties
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificates
- California Driver’s License if applicable
