Job Summary
Paraeducator - Mainstream Special Education supports certificated staff in mainstream classrooms, providing instructional and non-instructional assistance to students with disabilities. Responsibilities include instructing students individually or in small groups, monitoring and documenting student progress, supervising activities, maintaining records, communicating with staff/parents, promoting safe behavior, assisting with personal needs as required, and supporting behavior management and learning objectives under the direction of certificated staff. The role requires collaborative interaction with students, staff, and the community, and adherence to district policies, with training commitments such as Right Response, FCS, and Paraeducator certificate programs.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Hold high school diploma or its equivalent
- AA degree or higher
- Earned seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution of higher education
- Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program

- Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out the assignment, with experience working with school age children and special needs students preferred
- For Title One and Title One School-wide Special Education positions there is an associate degree, or proof of completion of the Washington State Paraeducator Assessment, or two years of higher education requirement per the Federal "No Child Left Behind" Act
- Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor
- Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan
- May be required to obtain first aid and CPR certification
- Requires hepatitis-B immunization
- May be required to attend training and become Right Response certified
- Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate of the state mandatedParaeducator Certificate Program per State requirements
