Job Summary
Provides direct instructional support to students with disabilities in classroom or separate settings (1:1 or small group) and implements adaptations to support IEP goals; collects data on goals, behavior plans, and program books; supports behavioral and social-emotional development using pro-social problem solving; assists with assistive technology and supervision during play and lunch; maintains confidentiality of student records; follows behavior intervention plans and implements ABA-related strategies (Discrete Trial Training, Naturalistic ABA) as directed by licensed staff; assists in lifting students into equipment and supporting daily living tasks; participates in required fingerprinting and ParaPro/Workkeys certification process within the first year; adheres to district policies and behavior programs to promote positive outcomes for students with disabilities; trains and supports students to foster independence while meeting individualized needs; role may involve varied assignments across settings and times as determined by building administration.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or 48 college credits (or higher)
- Passing score on the Massachusetts ParaPro or WorkKeys assessment within the first year of employment
- Fingerprinting prior to hiring
- High-Needs/Paraeducator certification requirements per ESSA
- Maintain confidentiality of student records
- Ability to assist with adaptive equipment and IEP goals
- Knowledge of behavior support and de-escalation strategies
- Experience with data collection and program implementation as directed by licensed staff
- Discretion with documentation and reporting
- Discretionary training in ABA-related techniques (Discrete Trial Training, Naturalistic ABA)
- De-escalation, redirection, and physical restraint training
- Compliance with district policies and IEP goals
- Ability to lift or assist with students in medical equipment as needed
- Demonstrated punctuality and attendance
- Knowledge of student development and special education practices
- Ability to work in 1:1 or small group settings
- Experience working with students with disabilities (desirable)
