Job Summary
Supports students, which may include, but not limited to, students with low-incidence disabilities, autism, social-emotional needs, and behavioral concerns. Performs instructional tasks in a classroom to assist teaching staff of public elementary or secondary school by carrying out duties such as planning, preparing, and developing various teaching materials; presenting content matter using various methods; assisting students individually or in groups; providing direct instructional support to students with and without disabilities; implementing modifications and accommodations as directed by the classroom teacher; collecting data on student performance; supporting behavioral/social-emotional needs; assisting with assistive technology; supervising students during play and lunch; fostering student independence; assisting with personal hygiene and daily living skills; maintaining confidentiality of student records; and modeling appropriate dress, punctuality, and attendance. Qualifications include Associate's degree or higher (or 48 credits), certification steps (ParaPro or equivalent), and knowledge of child development and early childhood education. Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree, 2 years of college or passing score on the ParaPro test
- CPR, First Aid Certification desirable
- Possesses knowledge of child development and experience with young students (12 months)
- Must be highly qualified
- Ability to meet certification requirements as determined by the Every Student Succeeds Act
