Job Summary

Adapt classroom activities and materials under teacher direction to enable special education students to actively participate. Aids students in and out of the classroom, managing personal care needs, note-taking, and social growth. Implements behavioral plans and education programming to develop new skills and address challenging behaviors. Instructs students in academic, social, and daily living skills while monitoring them during assigned periods across various school environments. Collaborates with staff to provide information on student progress and attends in-service presentations to meet state requirements. Maintains instructional materials and data sheets to ensure accurate records of student development.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title I assessment test (if the Elementary school building is classified as Title I)
  • Background Clearance
  • TB Test
  • Ability to adhere to safety practices
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to use district approved crisis intervention techniques
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Ability to understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of age appropriate student activities
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of stages of child development/behavior
  • Knowledge of safe handling of blood-borne pathogens
  • Knowledge of crisis de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to schedule activities
  • Ability to collect data
  • Ability to use basic, job-related equipment
  • Ability to work with a diversity of individuals
