Job Summary
Para Educator in the Sunnyside School District supports students in Special Education Self Contained settings during the 2026-2027 school year. Responsibilities include one-to-one and small group instruction, supervision inside and outside the classroom, and general assistance to teachers. Responsibilities also include incorporating IEP requirements into daily lesson plans, maintaining progress records, providing individualized practice, guiding independent work, communicating student progress to lead staff, and assisting with behavior management and safety tasks. The role may involve assisting with personal care tasks and hygiene as needed, collaborating with related service providers (e.g., SLP, SLPA, OT, COTA, Autism Specialist, etc.), attending required meetings, staying confidential, and supporting a positive learning environment for students with a range of physical and developmental needs.
Required Qualifications
- Must provide proof of high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Pass State Assessment for Para Educators or AA Degree or 72-quarter college credits or 48-semester credits at the one hundred level or higher or Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
Additional Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license or photo identification.
- Social Security Card.
- WSP/FBI fingerprint/background clearance.
