The Paraprofessional 1, Exceptional Student Education (ESE), will assist the school staff in the care and management of enrolled students while they are in school. Under the direction of the teacher and supervision of the principal, duties include assisting with student transportation on and off the bus, personal hygiene support, helping position and move students, meal preparation and feeding, basic first aid, operating and supporting use of medical equipment (e.g., tube feeding, catheterizations), providing care and supervision for students with disabilities, positioning students in wheelchairs and medical equipment, reporting information to teachers, participating in in-service and professional development, supporting classroom management, aiding communication through sign language or augmented communication systems, implementing instructional activities, performing light custodial duties, supporting community-based instruction, supervising behavior with positive supports, and participating in parent involvement activities. Responsibilities may evolve over time per district needs. Adaptability, cooperation, dependability, safety, and security are emphasized as essential skills and there is note of equal opportunity protections for all personnel.
