Job Summary
Deliver, set up, and pick up DME equipment, supplemental oxygen products, and supplies to home care patients and commercial accounts within an assigned geographical area. Organize product loads, complete deliveries and equipment returns efficiently, and call customers if unable to meet scheduled times. Practice safe driving habits, work with dispatch to create efficient routes, and maintain knowledge of the area and road conditions. Execute proper hand-washing techniques, wear gloves when exchanging disposables, and identify, handle, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste. Assist with pulling equipment from the warehouse, provide skilled assembly and inspection of equipment, and prepare new equipment set-up packets. Provide patient orientation and instruction on proper equipment use, solicit sales of additional products, and communicate financial responsibilities while collecting payments. Complete delivery and pickup paperwork promptly, gather insurance information, and return paperwork to appropriate personnel. Assess home safety, accessibility, and patient status, communicate changes in patient needs, and report equipment problems or competitor actions. Take on-call time on a rotating basis, respond quickly to customer problems, and document calls. Maintain clean and disinfect equipment using proper PPE, follow bagging and tagging procedures, and place items back in stock daily. Proactively maintain company vehicles, perform daily preventive maintenance, and report mechanical irregularities. Maintain the warehouse area in a neat and orderly fashion, assist with structure maintenance, and water landscaping. Prepare products for shipping, receive items, verify accuracy, and record inventory. Comply with all FDA, OSHA, DOT, and accreditation policies, maintain confidentiality, and display professional appearance.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Excellent customer relations, communication and teaching skills
- Excellent driving record
- Two years of HME/DME experience
- Delivery and stockroom experience
- Fluency in English or English and Spanish (read, write and speak)
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds
- Ability to withstand working in an open environment, where both heat and cold may be extreme
- Good fine motor dexterity and cognitive ability for driving
- Command of the senses to a level appropriate for driving and instruction to customers, including vision, hearing and speech
- Ability to think quickly in response to both customer requests and customer complaints
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts and to double-check those figures
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of OSHA, DOT, Medicare, accrediting bodies and other agencies as they impact the care and distribution of HME
- Understanding of the reimbursement process
- Knowledge of FDA, OSHA, and DOT regulations
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality, HIPAA and compliance
- Ability to comply with all applicable company policies, procedures, and patient protocols
- Ability to comply with all current government regulations and professional standards respecting patient care
