Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) Per Diem

Job Summary

Conduct new and follow-up consults for seriously ill adults across inpatient, outpatient, home, and facility settings. Perform pain assessments and manage symptoms including nausea, fatigue, and dyspnea while assessing disease trajectory and formulating prognosis with treating physicians. Triage urgent consults and arrange follow-up for less urgent issues, particularly on weekend shifts. Communicate serious news and help patients and families establish goals for care compassionately. Collaborate with referring providers, consultants, and hospital staff to improve clinical outcomes. Provide education and serve as a preceptor to students and new hires. Demonstrate knowledge of HHHPC policies, state/federal regulations, and HIPAA compliance. Submit accurate documentation and billing in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited master's degree program in Nursing and/or Clinical Doctorate program in nursing
  • Certified as a Family/Geriatric or Adult Nurse Practitioner and certified as a Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of RI
  • Minimum of one to three years' experience as nurse practitioner or physician's assistant, preferably in the field of Palliative Care
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in geriatrics, acute care, hospice, or oncology
  • Current RI and MA licenses as RN and Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant
  • Current RI and MA licenses for prescriptive authority, RI and MA controlled substance license, DEA license
  • Valid driver's license with and automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or agency requirements and is in good working order
  • Minimum of two weekend shifts per month (Saturday or Sunday) working at one of two large academic hospitals in Providence, RI

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with pain and symptom management
  • Knowledge of third-party reimbursement procedures and requirements
  • Experience in hospice and palliative care
  • Certification as advance practice in hospice and palliative care
  • Experience in primary care within a hospital or nursing home
