Job Summary
Lead weekly Painting & Drawing classes for TK–K and 1st–5th grade groups, developing age-appropriate lessons on drawing, painting, and color theory. Prepare materials, set up the classroom, and maintain a clean workspace while providing clear instructions and individualized support. Encourage creativity within a safe, inclusive environment, manage behavior, and communicate with on-site staff. Track attendance and report updates to program coordinators. This part-time, seasonal role at Santa Monica Parks & Recreation includes two class blocks on Thursdays from 1:50–2:50 PM for younger students and 3:10–4:10 PM for elementary grades. Compensation is discussed during the hiring process.
Required Qualifications
- Experience teaching or working with children in an educational or recreational setting
- Strong background in visual arts, including painting, drawing, and basic art techniques
- Ability to adapt lessons for multiple age groups and skill levels
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and professional work ethic
