Job Summary
Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures throughout the district. Smooth and prepare surfaces by sanding and removing old paint, then fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty or plaster. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings, while selecting premixed paints or mixing pigments to match specified colors. Use brushes, spray guns, or rollers to apply paint and create special effects, including staining and varnishing wood surfaces. Erect scaffolding or set up ladders for tasks above ground level and remove graffiti from buildings. Perform duties in other maintenance areas during staff shortages or support light construction projects. Must climb ladders up to 30ft and follow safety guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade
- Ability to speak and understand English
- Ability to properly apply paints
- Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers
- Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
- Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety
- Must be able to climb and complete some work on ladders at heights up to 30ft
