Job Summary
Manage all paint operations at the center, supervising the paint prepper team including recruitment, hiring, termination, and disciplinary actions. Establish goals and objectives for the paint team, administer training, and ensure the paint production schedule is met daily. Inspect quality of repairs from the Body Department and final paint quality before vehicles leave the shop, while maintaining a safe, organized vehicle flow. Monitor spray booth equipment and tools, plan weekly paint shop supplies and material usage to eliminate waste, and ensure hazardous waste compliance. Maintain a clean work area where all technicians use PPE effectively, and extend working hours as necessary to accommodate workload.
Required Qualifications
- Complete understanding of all facets of paint application for automobile collision repair
- Ability to recruit, hire, terminate and perform company disciplinary action process
- Ability to establish goals and objectives for the paint team
- Ability to administer training
- Ability to ensure paint production schedule
- Ability to inspect quality of repairs received from Body Department
- Ability to inspect final paint quality before vehicle is sent to detail
- Ability to ensure safe and organized vehicle flow in and out for the Paint department
- Ability to monitor all paint department equipment & tools for proper usage and maintenance
- Ability to monitor and plan paint shop supplies & material usage for one week of repairs
- Ability to ensure hazardous waste compliance is followed for the department
- Ability to extend normal working hours as necessary to accommodate workload and customer requirements
- Ability to work in an automotive collision repair and paint shop environment for extended periods
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the workday
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach while preparing and painting vehicles
- Ability to work in various positions, including above shoulder level, below waist level, and in confined spaces
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently
- Ability to use hands and fingers for repetitive sanding, masking, mixing, spraying, buffing, and operation of paint-related tools and equipment
- Ability to safely operate spray guns, paint mixing systems, sanding equipment, buffers, and other paint shop equipment
- Ability to perform repetitive motions for extended periods while maintaining quality and production standards
- Ability to visually inspect vehicle surfaces for imperfections, coverage, color match, texture, and finish quality
- Ability to accurately distinguish colors, shades, and variations to ensure proper color matching and paint application
- Ability to enter, exit, and maneuver around vehicles of various sizes and configurations
- Ability to safely navigate around moving vehicles, equipment, tools, and active repair operations
- Ability to tolerate exposure to noise, dust, paint fumes, solvents, chemicals, and varying temperatures while utilizing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to communicate effectively with paint preppers, technicians, production staff, and supervisors regarding repair status, color match concerns, and production needs
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all environmental, safety, and hazardous material handling procedures
- Ability to meet quality, productivity, and cycle-time expectations in a fast-paced production environment
Desired Qualifications
- I-CAR Gold Class and ASE certification
