Job Summary
Pitch and write several celebrity and entertainment stories daily with speed, clean copy, and an unmistakable voice. Proactively uncover under-the-radar scoops that resonate with the audience while monitoring social media trends and fan culture to create content that fits their interests. Expand nighttime news coverage by using analytics tools like Google Analytics and Parse.ly to guide SEO best practices and identify viral moments before they break. Work in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking, multitasking, and flexibility to cover live pop culture events outside traditional business hours. Join the modern evolution of the iconic gossip column to drive conversations that define the city's most talked-about stories.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of major journalism experience
- A deep understanding of and passion for all things celebrity and entertainment
- Exceptional writing and reporting skills
- Ability to write succinct, eye-catching headlines and clean, ready-to-publish content
- Knowledge and understanding of SEO best practices
- Strong editorial judgment and communication skills
- Familiarity with content management systems (Wordpress, in particular)
- Familiarity with photo editing software & web analytics tools
- Flexibility in covering live pop culture events (i.e. Oscars, Golden Globes, etc.) and working outside traditional business hours when needed
- NYC-based candidates will be expected to report into the office 5 days per week
- Open to LA-based candidates
