Job Summary
Conduct immediate post-operative care for patients recovering from surgical or procedural interventions, focusing on continuous assessment of airway patency, respiratory and cardiovascular status, pain, and surgical sites. Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient recovery, readiness for discharge or transfer, and effective patient and family education. Administer treatments and medications accurately, document care in electronic medical records, and develop age-specific care plans through individualized patient assessment and evaluation. Participate in performance improvement initiatives, advocate for patient rights, and support orientation and training of new employees while managing resources and adapting to changing care needs. Works three 12-hour shifts per week, most commonly from 0800–2030 or 0900–2130, with occasional weekend coverage as required.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program
- Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Eligibility to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- AHA BLS-HCP certification
- Keyboarding skills
- Computer literacy including use of electronic medical records
