Job Summary

Operate packaging machinery to bag dry pet food products, ensuring accurate codes, proper seals, and correct product placement in holding bins. Accurately document production lots to support the quality assurance program and report machine or line issues to the Packaging Lead. Rotate positions with team members and participate in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts and B.E.S.T practices. Maintain familiarity with Simmons operating systems and communicate concerns or improvement ideas. Perform other duties as necessary, including lifting up to 55 pounds and working in temperature extremes from 40 to 100 degrees.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees)
  • Must be able to work on feet for entire shift
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 55 pounds of packaged product from floor to shoulder height
  • Must be able to empty package into packaging cylinder repetitively
  • Must be able to hold 55 pounds of finished product inside a bag
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of up to 150 feet
  • Must be able to use head covering
  • Must be able to use ear plugs
  • Must be able to use safety glasses
  • Must be able to use non-skid steel toed boots
  • Must be able to use any other protective equipment as needed or required
  • Must be able to operate a machine which bags finished products
  • Must be able to check holding bins for proper products being stored
  • Must be able to ensure codes on bags are accurate
  • Must be able to assure product bag seals properly
  • Must be able to accurately document production lots utilized to assist quality assurance program
  • Must be able to work with other employees to rotate positions
  • Must be able to report line or machine problems to Packaging Lead
  • Must be able to participate as a member of the Team
  • Must be able to participate in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies
  • Must be able to coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members
  • Must be able to attend appropriate team meetings
  • Must be able to foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues
  • Must be able to accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness
  • Must be able to bring areas lacking cohesiveness to the attention of the team leader
  • Must be able to work with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues
  • Must be able to actively look for ways to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization
  • Must be able to reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization
  • Must be able to communicate concerns and improvement ideas
  • Must be able to maintain familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems
  • Must be able to understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems
  • Must be able to consider the impact of individual actions on the systems
  • Must be able to work inside or outside
  • Must be able to perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous machine operation skills, particularly packaging equipment skills preferred
  • Manufacturing experience in pet food production preferred
  • Military experience
