Job Summary

Operate the hot end of the wool unit, maintaining continuous marble feed and keeping fibers aligned in guides while observing equipment for improper performance. Change pots, burners, and rollers as needed, correcting stringers and binderless clumps to ensure quality output. Shut down and restart units for periodic cleanup, assisting the Machine Chief in changing over products and minimizing job loss. Keep the forming section, rolls, and work areas clean, notifying supervision of malfunctions and communicating scrap runs via signal lights. Record operational data including pot and burner performance, roll speed, and other necessary metrics. Adhere to all safety protocols, wear required PPE, and complete monthly safety audits and computer-based training.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Licensed to operate Forklift and other material handling equipment
  • Safety Knowledge of all safety requirements
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on cement floors
  • Must be able to walk, stoop, kneel and climb ladders and staircases
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs regularly, and up to 90 as required
  • Must be able to wear dual ear protection equipment when working in vicinity of hot end units
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE
  • Must be able to mix and handle resins and other chemicals while using computers and other forms of measuring devices
  • Must be able to complete computer based training and all other programs needed to stay in compliance with company policy's
  • Must be able to attend all monthly safety meetings
  • Must be able to complete safety/beware audits on a monthly basis
  • Must be able to perform pre-employment substance abuse testing
  • Must be able to maintain a drug-free workplace
  • Must be able to comply with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements
  • Must be able to remain on job until relieved
  • Must be able to continuously observe unit for improper performance and keep all equipment in proper adjustment
  • Must be able to continuously observe for and correct poor pot operation, stringers, binderless clumps
  • Must be able to assist Machine Chief in changing over unit from one product to another
  • Must be able to assist Machine Chief in shutting down a unit for periodic cleanup or other reasons and restarting unit
  • Must be able to keep all parts of the forming section, including rolls, guides, pressure bars, etc. clean at all times
  • Must be able to keep the tops of the pots and forming tube free of marbles and fly
  • Must be able to maintain other equipment and work area clean and neat at all times
  • Must be able to observe for malfunctioning of equipment and for unusual operating conditions and notify supervision
  • Must be able to verbally communicate to the spooler when scrap is being run by use of signal light system
  • Must be able to be qualified on the more complex subordinate jobs
  • Must be able to read gauges and instruments
  • Must be able to perform some analytical ability
  • Must be able to record information relative to the operation and perform other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to work performed
  • Must be able to keep neat and accurate records of pot and burner performance, roll speed, etc.
  • Must be able to use safe work practices and report hazardous conditions at all times
  • Must be able to keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly
  • Must be able to ensure that all 5S areas of responsibility have been completed before end of shift
  • Must be able to follow safety guidelines in the defiance complex
  • Must be able to follow all general shop rules for defiance complex
  • Must be able to clean and change Cuno filters, while keeping the area clean
  • Must be able to work in a team based environment
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment in a safe manor
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities during the course of the day
  • Must be able to work from general instructions from the plant management team
  • Must be able to comply with the Production Superintendent
  • Must be able to work under direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor
  • Must be able to perform duties connected with the hot end of the wool unit
  • Must be able to assist in changing of pots, burners and rollers
  • Must be able to line up forming section and keep fibers lined up in upper and lower guides
  • Must be able to maintain continuous marble feed to pots and operate them so that each pot has the same glass output
  • Must be able to perform other related duties as directed, including duties of lower classification
