Job Summary
Perform regular assigned checks, keep logs up to date, and execute equipment repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting. Properly start-up and shut-down plant equipment, train other mechanical or production personnel, and instruct others in safe working habits. Weld mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum; fabricate sheet metal; and repair drive components on packaging machines including case packers, palletizers, and conveyors. Install new equipment as directed and operate each piece of packaging equipment with minimal direction. Work up to 12 hours per day in a noisy, variable temperature environment ranging from -20°F to 90°F. Lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders regularly to perform duties at various heights.
Required Qualifications
- Must meet the qualifications of lower bracketed mechanic positions
- Proficient at welding mild steel
- Thorough knowledge of plant operations and mechanical systems and equipment
- Good communicator with salaried and hourly personnel
- Thorough knowledge of basic mechanical skills (i.e. plumbing, measuring, changing bearings, etc.)
- Able to work alone and in a neat workman-like manner
- Fulfil Line Mechanic duties in Raw Receiving, Plant I, Plant II or Co-Product
- Weld stainless steel and aluminum
- Set up and adjust cutters and Lamb guns
- Properly adjust all shakers and conveyors
- Repair all drive components on plant equipment
- Do sheet metal layout, fabrication, and installation
- Operate each piece of packaging equipment
- Trouble shoot, repair and rebuild the following with minimal direction and supervision: Blue Point Case packers, settler, gluers; Triangle package machines; Bosch packaging machines; Dynapaks; palletizers; stretch wrappers; case sealers; case settlers; Isoflo shakers; Ajax and Eccentric driven shakers; check weighers; belt conveyors; PLC's; hydraulic pumps, cylinders and accessories; product feeders and scales
- Knowledgeable of solid state electronics
- Pipe fitting for air, water, and hydraulics
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to weld, chip, grind and use all power tools safely at different heights on scaffolds, ladders and safety cages
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
- Ability to operate work related equipment
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to climb to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis
