Job Summary
Overnight Residential Counselor providing humane treatment and ensuring dignity for adolescents in a residential setting. Supports students with emotional/behavioral difficulties, trauma history, and life skills; duties include implementing crisis interventions per protocols, following treatment team decisions, supervising and assisting counselors with assessments and interventions, and helping students adhere to daily schedules (meals, recreation, housekeeping, chores, ADLs). Requires staying awake during overnight shifts, high school diploma (Bachelor's preferred), ability to communicate clearly, and willingness to undergo extensive background checks and certifications (BCC, CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration eligibility); includes eligibility for licensure-related reimbursements and a bilingual bonus for language skills. Required Qualifications
- Must be 21 years or older
- High School Diploma required
- Bachelor's Degree, with a major course work in human services, psychology, social work, or sociology preferred
- Remain awake throughout overnight shift to ensure safety and wellbeing of students
- Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications
- Ability to independently plan and organize one’s own schedule and activities to successfully complete all required tasks
- Mental health program experience with adolescents preferred. Knowledge of basic Microsoft computer systems and internet preferred
- Background Check: acceptable driving record check, Nationwide Alpha background check, State of CT criminal background, and DCF background check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination
- Ability to be certified in BCC
- A valid driver’s license in state of residency and approval to drive from JRI insurance to drive for JRI business
- Ability to be certified in American Red Cross CPR/First Aid
- Eligibility for certification in Medication Administration for DCF and/or DDS
- Availability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the staffing needs of the program
