Job Summary

Observe patients at risk for self-harm or injury, maintaining safety positions and keeping them in sight at all times. Document behaviors using appropriate forms, accompany patients to bathrooms and testing as needed, and demonstrate proficiency with bed alarms. Obtain shift information from the registered nurse, monitor for escalating behavior, and report patient status and needs. Safeguard patient privacy, comply with hospital policies, and maintain a professional, courteous attitude while fostering a culture of safety. Remain on duty until relieved by oncoming coverage or the nurse discontinues coverage.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficient in English both verbally and written
  • Previous service industry experience
  • Ability to perform Safeguarding
  • Ability to safeguard the privacy and security of patient information
  • Ability to bring potential compliance issues to a manager, supervisor, director or VP
  • Ability to convey respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, families to promote patient health and well-being
  • Ability to consider the individual needs of each person with whom they interact
  • Ability to interact with sensitivity in the delivery of care/services of diverse populations as needed
  • Ability to report to work in proper uniform as per departmental standards and/or hospital policy
  • Ability to maintain a professional, courteous attitude toward patient, co–workers and all departments daily
  • Ability to foster a 'Culture of Safety' through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment
  • Ability to demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions
  • Ability to understand individual role/responsibilities in the event of a hospital code
  • Ability to perform proper handwashing per CDC guidelines
  • Ability to utilize appropriate communication to relay any identified patient or staff safety risks
  • Ability to report patient status to incoming staff in respectful, professional manner

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous service industry experience preferred along with the ability to perform: Safeguarding
