Job Summary
Answer the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988) and local crisis lines using HQCC's Crisis Counselor Training philosophy. Provide crisis intervention through call, chat, and text services, employing reflective listening, de-escalation, risk assessment, safety planning, and resource referral. Assess callers for imminent suicide risk per policy and ensure timely answer rates. Complete documentation while monitoring peer quality. Participate in organizational events to promote connectedness. Complete paid in-house training and 60 hours of on-the-job practice before working the 36-hour average week, including weekends and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 18 years of age or older
- Proficiency in English written and oral language skills
- Excellent communication skills written, and verbal
- Reliable transportation
- Must be able to pass State and Federal criminal background checks
- Able to represent HeadQuarters Kansas and themselves with integrity and professionalism at all times
- Completion of a paid in-house crisis counselor training
- Minimum of 60 paid hours of on-the-job practice
- Ability to answer the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988) and local crisis lines
- Ability to provide crisis intervention using reflective listening skills, de-escalation, assessment of risk, safety planning, follow-up, care linkage, and referral to resources
- Ability to assess consumers on the call or chat lines for imminent risk in accordance with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Policy for Helping Callers at Imminent Risk of Suicide
- Ability to complete documentation in a timely and quality manner
- Ability to monitor the quality and completeness of documentation of peers and volunteer counselors
- Ability to handle incoming contacts effectively to ensure timely speed of answer and target answer rate
- Availability for weekends and some holidays
- Availability for 3rd Shift (Overnight Days & Weekends)
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
- Previous experience in conflict resolution
