Overhead Crane Technician / Industrial Electrician

Job Summary

Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on electric overhead traveling cranes and hoists at varied customer locations, conducting on-site electrical, mechanical, structural, and electronic troubleshooting to determine equipment malfunctions. Advise supervisors of unsafe practices, document findings during safety reviews, and complete post-repair audits to ensure all safety features are functional. Consult with customers regarding repair and safety issues, determine quotation requirements, and provide recommendations to improve safety and productivity. Maintain company equipment and vehicles in proper working order while complying with all corporate safety policies and CSA, OSHA, and ANSI regulations. Work on-call as part of a service rotation, providing after-hours service as required.

Required Qualifications

  • A recognized trade qualification as a Journeyman Electrician, Journeyman Millwright or equivalent qualification/experience in terms of skills and knowledge
  • An Associate's degree in Industrial Electrical/Mechanical Technology with related field or equivalent experience
  • Equivalent experience in terms of skills and knowledge
  • Min 1 year or depending on the Provincial Legislative requirements and CSA standards
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness and ability to work at heights
  • Ability to climb ladders/walkways
  • Good computer skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer interaction skills
  • Ability to work overtime or as required by customer operations
  • Ability to travel and work out of town as required
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs less frequently on a daily basis
  • Ability to lift to 75 lbs and up to 100lbs on a rare basis with an assisted devices

  • Ability to read, understand and apply the contents of all CSA, OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, HMI and other codes or regulations pertaining to our industry
  • Ability to refresh and update knowledge periodically
  • Ability to complete Work Packages and other required documents in a professional, accurate, neat and legible manner
  • Ability to submit documents in a timely manner and in accordance with established guidelines
  • Ability to maintain regular communication with the service office and assigned Coordinator
  • Ability to maintain all company issued equipment, vehicle and assets in a safe and proper working order
  • Ability to operate tools, equipment and vehicles in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to notify supervisor of any deficiencies for resolution
  • Ability to maintain supply of forms, literature, inventory and miscellaneous materials in the service vehicle
  • Ability to document use or sale to customer as required
  • Ability to comply with all corporate Safety Policies and guidelines/procedures
  • Ability to advise Supervisor or Manager of any unsafe practice performed or witnessed
  • Ability to perform inspections, maintenance and repairs on electric overhead traveling cranes and hoists
  • Ability to be available on call as part of service office rotation
  • Ability to provide after-hours service as required
  • Ability to conduct on-site electrical, mechanical, structural and electronic troubleshooting
  • Ability to establish necessary repairs utilizing visual inspection, test procedures and appropriate test equipment
  • Ability to perform a general post-repair audit prior to completion of work
  • Ability to document that all required safety features are functional or documenting deficiencies and attaching a deficiency tag to the crane
  • Ability to document findings and make corrective recommendations during the SAFETY REVIEW to the customer
  • Ability to provide a written Safety Notification of any observed or known safety concerns
  • Ability to determine customer's intentions to purchase repairs
  • Ability to notate actions necessary to sell or complete the repairs
  • Ability to consult with customer regarding all repair and safety-related issues
  • Ability to discuss recommendations that will assist the customer with improving their SAFETY & PRODUCTIVITY
  • Ability to determine items requiring quotation
  • Ability to complete and provide proper electronic documentation utilizing the established company digital tools required for each service
  • Ability to obtain the customer's signature and acceptance
  • Ability to follow all established safety rules and procedures including those established by the customer
  • Ability to participate in monthly safety meetings
