Job Summary
Over the Road Driver (Extraboard) at Estes: operate a tractor-trailer to move freight between Estes Service Centers, typically 5 days away from home, with responsibilities including safe operation across terrains, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, adherence to FMCSA regulations, maintaining required records, and possible use of in-cab technology and ELDs. Must hold a Class A CDL with HazMat and Tanker endorsements, pass FMCSA medical and road tests, and meet company requirements (drug screening, MVR, English proficiency). Requires lifting up to ~70 lbs, ability to drive manual/automatic transmissions, and ability to work flexible schedules and locations within the Estes network.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 21 years of age
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
- FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse registration
- HazMat endorsement
- Tanker endorsement
- Doubles endorsement (may apply)
- Ability to drive tractor trailer per FMCSA requirements
- Stable employment history preferred
- Physical ability to lift up to 70 lbs
- Must be able to read and speak English
- Must pass FMCSA medical exam
- Must pass road test
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and drug/alcohol tests
- Criminal history background check
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Must reside within 75 miles of the domiciled Service Center or work assignment
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and state/local laws
- Ability to operate safety and operational functions of equipment
- Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Ability to report maintenance problems
- Ability to use in-cab technology and electronic logs
- Safety-conscious and customer-service oriented
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Able to drive under varied weather conditions
- Ability to drive in all terrains
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling
- Experience with driving long-haul routes
