Job Summary
Over the Road Chassis Mechanic will perform mechanical repairs and inspections in an over the road environment, including chassis repairs (brake jobs, welding, torch work), container chassis repairs, light container repairs, tire changes, inventory maintenance, and adherence to safety and performance guidelines. Responsibilities include performing FMCSA chassis inspections, following TRAC Chassis Pool Repair Guidelines, communicating with management on space and backlog, and ensuring readiness for road service. Requires MIG/ARC welding experience, familiarity with AAR/IICL/DOT rules, ability to work independently, and valid driver’s license with DOT medical requirements.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of experience in chassis mechanics, usage and customary repair methods
- Some experience with minor container repairs
- At least one year of experience in MIG and/or ARC welding
- Knowledge of AAR, IICL and DOT rules and criteria
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Proficiency with computer systems (Office and IDCS systems for rail)
- Ability to read and write legibly
- Ability to review a written plan and execute according to the stated standards
- Ability to work within a process-oriented, team atmosphere
- Must meet minimum FMCSA requirements
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and handle multiple tasks
