Job Summary
Outside Machinist role at a Shipyard in San Diego, CA. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing ship propulsion and auxiliary systems (steam, turbine, electrical, diesel propulsion; rudders and steering gear; elevators; Navy UNREP systems) and ship fluid systems (pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchangers, actuators and valves). Also tests equipment to ensure specifications are met and installs/tests shop equipment. Requires reading/interpreting mechanical drawings and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams; assembling/ installing complex mechanical systems with precise alignment; proficiency with precision measurement tools; knowledge of Imperial/Metric measurement systems; basic geometry/trigonometry; strong safety awareness. Minimum three years of related experience or diesel/aircraft mechanic training or Navy ratings (MM, BT, AD, CM, EN, GS, HT, MR); English language comprehension; capable of following instructions and safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High school or equivalent education
- Minimum three years of experience in a related field, or graduate of a Diesel or Aircraft Mechanic training school, or three years in Navy ratings MM (BT), AD, CM, EN, GS, HT, or MR
- Must comprehend written and verbal instructions in English
- Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings
- Must read and interpret mechanical drawings and hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams
- Must be capable of assembling/installing complex mechanical systems with proper alignment
- Proficient in use of precision measurement tools; understand Imperial and Metric systems; basic geometry/trigonometry
- Must maintain constant safety awareness
