Job Summary
Assemble, install, modify, and repair surface ship machinery and systems using precision measuring tools like dial calipers and micrometers. Perform major overhauls on diesel, gas, and air compressors, and disassemble, reassemble, and test towing winch components, mooring winches, capstans, anchor windlasses, and hydraulic cranes. Remove and reinstall generators while executing major alignments on gearboxes and engine shafts. Evaluate procedures to recommend changes related to setup and production efficiency. This full-time position requires 40+ hours per week, including weekends and evening shifts from 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Gulf Marine Repair seeks self-motivated machinists with three years of experience and knowledge of ships and gearboxes.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to rig any and all props, shafts, generators, pumps, and engines
- Ability to align pumps to motors
- Ability to remove and reinstall generators
- Ability to take readings on props, shafts, and bearings
- Ability to pass a drug test
- Have basic hand tools
- Weekends are required
- Evenings and weekends are required when needed
Desired Qualifications
- 3 years of machining experience (preferred)
- General knowledge about ships and machinery
- Knowledge about gearboxes
- Shipyard experience is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration
- Willingness to learn

- Ability to work well independently
