Job Summary
Outside Machinist Journeyman Diesel Mechanic performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair on diesel marine engines and related systems using specifications and manuals. Responsibilities include maintaining detailed maintenance/repair records, communicating with management and customers, providing guidance and training to junior mechanics and apprentices, and ordering/managing inventory of parts. Requires 18+ years and minimum 5 years marine/shipyard experience; proficient with measuring devices and hand/power tools. Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Minimum 5 years marine and/or shipyard experience preferred
- Use of measuring devices (rulers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth mics, scales, etc.)
- Ability to communicate with management regarding job status and updates
- Ability to communicate with customers regarding repair needs and solutions
- Provide guidance and training to junior mechanics and apprentices
- Must be able to operate hand tools and power tools
