Job Summary
Conduct community outreach and screening for trauma and mental health concerns, providing information and referral services and informal lay counseling where appropriate. Prioritize individuals and families affected by natural disasters while utilizing trauma-informed crisis response and stabilization techniques. Communicate effectively with diverse populations and transport clients using an agency vehicle, adhering to a flexible schedule to promote accessibility. Complete required certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED, as well as CPI or Behavioral Management classes. Maintain a clear criminal background record and exercise discretion when presenting new programs or addressing controversial issues.
Required Qualifications
- High school, plus additional courses or specialized training at business or community college, or other formal training facility or program
- Ability to understand and carry out assigned duties effectively
- Knowledge of stenography
- Knowledge of office routines
- Knowledge of elementary accounting procedures
- Ability to operate bookkeeping and billing machines
- Ability to operate tabulating equipment
- Ability to operate transcription machines
- Over one year, up to and including two years of experience
- At least 1 year experience providing direct care to children and adolescents
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care
- Knowledge of trauma-informed crisis response and stabilization
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse social, economic, ethnic/racial and cultural backgrounds
- Valid Hawaii driver's license
- Clear driver's abstract
- Willingness to travel in personal vehicle on an as-needed basis throughout the island
- Subject to a criminal background investigation
- Record clear of convictions
- Successful completion of CPI classes OR other Behavioral Management certification
- Successful completion of CPR, First Aid, AED classes
- Requires considerable tact, discretion and persuasion to obtain results
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in responding to natural disasters and working with survivors in crisis preferred
