Job Summary
Outreach Peer Specialist role providing street-based engagement, case management, and crisis intervention for people experiencing homelessness across LA-area communities. Responsibilities include field-based engagement in encampments and transit hubs, trauma-informed conversations, completing intake and triage, linking participants to housing referrals, benefits, and healthcare services, coordinating with law enforcement and providers, documenting in HMIS, and supporting safe transitions from street to housing. Requires evening/night/weekend availability, valid CA driver’s license, ability to travel across multiple locations, and strong communication skills with a focus on confidentiality and client advocacy.
Required Qualifications
- Valid California driver's license with acceptable MVR for HTM's commercial insurance
- Reliable personal transportation and proof of vehicle insurance
- Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required by program deployment schedules
- Ability to work in outdoor field-based environments across multiple community locations in Los Angeles County
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and handle physical demands described
- Compliance with HIPAA standards and all HTM company policies
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Associate's degree in Social Work or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Minimum 3 years of experience in homeless outreach, healthcare, or supportive housing environments
- Lived experience with homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or related circumstances is a valued qualification
- Experience supporting or teaching life skills
- Familiarity with HMIS, CES, or similar data systems preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
