Job Summary
Outreach Housing Specialist responsible for submitting, compiling, copying, and distributing housing packages and subsidy/voucher letters, escorting clients to housing-related appointments, liaising with housing providers, tracking data, researching permanent housing options, coordinating moves with DHS/landlords, and providing outreach to engage clients; position operates within BRC's Transit Homeless Outreach program across NYC with 37.5 hours weekly; travel to and collaboration with housing agencies, case managers, and transit authorities; bilingual English/Spanish preferred; BA/BS preferred and driver’s license required; vaccination preferred but not required; benefits include health insurance, paid time off, retirement plan, and professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS preferred
- Experience in processing housing applications (NYCHA, Section 8, NY/NY 2010e, CITY FHEPS, SEPS and HUD-VASH strongly preferred)
- Minimum 2 years working with clients on homelessness, addictions, mental illness, entitlements and housing
- Demonstrable writing and communication skills
- Computer proficiency
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Fire Safety and First Aid/CPR certification or ability to pass test to acquire these credentials required
- Valid Driver's License required
