Job Summary
Deliver 45-minute workshops in Spanish or dual-language English/Spanish settings, including key phrases from assemblies and facilitating hands-on science shows for K-8th grade audiences. Review professionally translated terminology, support Spanish language assessment in recruitment, and provide feedback on curriculum revisions. Arrange logistics and travel for regional programs across Washington, manage 15-passenger van operations, and maintain program materials while ensuring safety during visits. Engage with school staff, community leaders, and parent volunteers to coordinate Science on Wheels events, delivering astronomy, engineering, and biology content to groups ranging from small classrooms to assemblies of 500 students.
Required Qualifications
- At least 6 months experience working with youth in an educational setting, i.e., school, community center, library, summer camp, etc.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Work must be performed onsite and at program locations, ranging from nearby programs in the Seattle area to regional programs across the state of Washington
- Work schedules will flex based on seasonal cycle needs throughout the year and will include some evenings and weekends, as well as multi-day travel
- Ability to travel up to 4 consecutive days for regional program delivery
- Valid driver's license with 5 years of driving experience, good driving record and ability and willingness to drive a 15-passenger van
- Must be at least 21 years old for vehicle insurance purposes
- Ability to communicate science concepts at a PreK-8th grade level in Spanish clearly, accurately, and appropriately in professional educational settings
- Knowledge of K-8th grade level Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) educational principles and basic content knowledge
- Personal bias awareness and desire to be an anti-racist educator
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Excellent customer service skills including composure under pressure, conflict resolution skills, and the ability to represent Pacific Science Center's mission and focus on guest experience on and off site
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, guest facing environment and be flexible, with good judgment and solutions-oriented focus in the face of challenges
- Ability to maintain energy and enthusiasm with a friendly, positive demeanor and outlook when faced with unexpected challenges during travel or program delivery
- Excellent public speaking skills – ability to present dynamic educational programs for both small and large groups (up to 500 people)
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new STEM content and informal learning concepts
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and writing skills
- Ability to assess age-appropriate risk and activities and apply good judgment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent time management
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and file sharing programs
- Enthusiastic self-learner; comfortable teaching and learning from peers
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing radios, telephone, and virtual platforms to give and receive information, as well as engaging in public speaking for groups from 2 to 500 in live presentations
- Must be able to drive 15 passenger van
