Job Summary
Outpatient RN CAP 1 providing clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients undergoing hemodialysis, including assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Works under supervision with potential delegation to direct care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians) and collaborates with the End Stage Kidney Disease care team. Responsibilities include data collection and analysis around hemodialysis treatment, adjusting the treatment plan as needed, patient/family education, administering prescribed medications, emergency response, staff training, coordination of lab processing, documentation in patient records, and participation in quality improvement activities. Requires graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, current state RN licensure, CPR/BLS certification, and entry-level nephrology experience; CAP requirements to advance; familiarity with dialysis procedures and interprofessional teamwork.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current state licensure
- Current CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet practice requirements in the employed state
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
- Minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as an RN
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and assist with patient care as described
- Capable of providing education to patients and family, documentation in medical records
- Able to travel to training sites or other facilities as needed
