Job Summary
Conduct daily hemodialysis therapy for assigned patients, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care. Collect and analyze patient data pre-, during-, and post-treatment to modify treatment plans and document outcomes in medical records. Collaborate with direct and ancillary staff to ensure safe delivery of therapy, administer medications as prescribed, and initiate emergency response measures when necessary. Educate patients and families on learning needs, transplant options, and treatment modalities while assisting with laboratory collection and shipping procedures. Provide oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LVNs, and LPNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge after meeting CAP requirements. Perform quality improvement activities and participate in staff training as part of the End Stage Kidney Disease health care team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
- Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to move machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs.
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations with the same physical demands
- Must be able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels
- Must be able to work in a health care facility with air temperature control
- Must be able to handle exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses
- Must be able to perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre – during – post hemodialysis treatment
- Must be able to assess, collaborate, and document patient/family's basic learning needs
- Must be able to administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
- Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
- Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
- Must be able to identify expected outcomes, document and update the nursing assessment and plan of care
- Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
- Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
- Must be able to provide essential functions of this position in other locations with the same physical demands and working conditions as described above
- Must be able to work in a drug-free workplace
