Job Summary
Assess, plan, and evaluate care for assigned patients undergoing hemodialysis, including collecting and analyzing pre-, during-, and post-treatment data to modify treatment plans. Collaborate with direct and ancillary staff to deliver safe hemodialysis therapy, administer medications per algorithm, and initiate emergency responses when necessary. Document patient learning needs to provide education to patients and families, ensure correct laboratory collection and shipping, and update nursing assessments through interdisciplinary team collaboration. Serve as a resource for the health care team, participate in staff training, and lead Patient Care Technicians, LVNs, or LPNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge. Requires 9 months of RN experience and 3 months in hemodialysis; entry-level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program.
Required Qualifications
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
- Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to move, with assistance, machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs.
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations with the same physical demands and working conditions
- Must be able to handle exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be available for travel to training sites or other facilities
Desired Qualifications
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
