Job Summary
Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-, during-, and post-hemodialysis treatment, documenting adjustments to treatment plans and notifying the Team Leader as needed. Assess, collaborate, and document patient and family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education. Direct and provide all aspects of daily hemodialysis therapy delivery in collaboration with direct and ancillary staff. Administer medications as prescribed, document medical justification, and initiate emergency response measures when required. Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures while identifying expected outcomes and updating nursing assessments through Interdisciplinary Team collaboration. Serve as a resource for the health care team, participate in staff training, and provide oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, and LVNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge. Requires day-to-day work involving heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and interaction with patients, physicians, and facility staff.
Required Qualifications
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
- Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Must be able to lift 200 lbs.
- Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to move machines and equipment with assistance
- Must be able to assist with patient ambulation
- Must be able to move patients
- Must be able to handle exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be available for travel to training sites or other facilities
- Must be available to provide essential functions of this position in other locations
- Must be able to delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians
- Must be able to administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
- Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
- Must be able to participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
- Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
- Must be able to identify expected outcomes, documents and updates the nursing assessment and plan of care for assigned patients through collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
- Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
- Must be able to perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses

- Must be able to make adjustments or modifications to treatment plan as indicated and notifies Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician as needed
- Must be able to assess, collaborates, and documents patient/family's basic learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
- Must be able to direct and provides, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff, all aspects of the daily provision of safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy to assigned patients
- Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
- Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
- Must be able to work in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations
