Job Summary

Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-, during-, and post-hemodialysis treatment, documenting results and adjusting treatment plans as indicated. Assess and document patient and family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education, while administering medications and initiating emergency response measures as prescribed. Direct the daily provision of safe hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff, ensuring correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessments and plans, serve as a resource for health care teams, and participate in staff training and orientation. Requires 9 months of RN experience and 3 months in chronic/acute hemodialysis; offers on-the-job training for dialysis tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
  • Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to move machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to lift and move patients
  • Must be able to assist with ambulation
  • Must be available for travel to training sites or other facilities
  • Must be available to provide essential functions in other locations
  • Must be able to work Monday-Saturday 4:15am-9pm
  • Must be able to work rotating days
  • Must be able to work shifts from 6:30am-7pm or 8am-8:30pm
  • Must be able to work weekend shifts
  • Must be able to work early morning shifts

  • Must be able to perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre – during – post hemodialysis treatment
  • Must be able to document in the patient medical record
  • Must be able to make adjustments or modifications to treatment plan
  • Must be able to notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician
  • Must be able to assess, collaborate, and document patient/family's basic learning needs
  • Must be able to provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Must be able to direct and provide all aspects of the daily provision of safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy
  • Must be able to administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
  • Must be able to document appropriate medical justification and effectiveness
  • Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
  • Must be able to participate in staff training
  • Must be able to orient new staff
  • Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
  • Must be able to reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections
  • Must be able to identify expected outcomes
  • Must be able to document and update the nursing assessment and plan of care
  • Must be able to collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
  • Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
  • Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Must be able to work in a drug-free workplace
