Job Summary

Conduct outpatient hemodialysis therapy for assigned patients, collecting and analyzing pre-, during-, and post-treatment data while adjusting treatment plans as needed. Administer medications per approved algorithms, document outcomes, and educate patients and families on transplant options and treatment modalities. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessments, ensure accurate laboratory processing, and initiate emergency responses. Direct and supervise Patient Care Technicians, LVNs, and LPNs under the guidance of the Clinical Educator. Complete Fresenius Kidney Care policy requirements and CAP training to advance within the Clinical Advancement Program.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
  • Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift 200 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to move machines and equipment with assistance
  • Must be able to move patients with assistance
  • Must be able to assist with ambulation
  • Must be available for rotating days
  • Must be available for rotating shifts
  • Must be able to work MWF 4:30am-7:30pm
  • Must be able to work TThS 4:30am-5:00pm
  • Must be able to work in a health care facility with moderate noise levels
  • Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
  • Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations
  • Must be able to travel to training sites or other facilities

Desired Qualifications

  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
  • Less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience as a Team Leader
  • Experience as a Nurse in Charge
  • Experience in delegation of tasks to direct patient care staff
  • Experience in decision-making
  • Experience in teaching
  • Experience in leadership functions
  • Experience in quality improvement activities
  • Experience in staff training and orientation of new staff
  • Experience in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Experience in assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation
  • Experience in delegation of appropriate tasks to RNs, LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians
  • Experience in collection and analysis of patient data pre – during – post hemodialysis treatment
  • Experience in making adjustments or modifications to treatment plan
  • Experience in notifying Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician
  • Experience in providing initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Experience in administering medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
  • Experience in documenting appropriate medical justification and effectiveness
  • Experience in initiating or assisting with emergency response measures
  • Experience in ensuring correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures
  • Experience in rescheduling missed or insufficient laboratory collections
  • Experience in identifying expected outcomes
  • Experience in updating the nursing assessment and plan of care
  • Experience in ensuring patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
  • Experience in completing CAP requirements to advance
  • Experience in performing all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Experience in performing all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor
  • Experience in working with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor
  • Experience in collaborating with other Registered Nurses
  • Experience in providing safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy
  • Experience in serving as a resource for health care team
  • Experience in participating in staff training
  • Experience in orientation of new staff
  • Experience in performing all duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations
