Job Summary
Assess, plan, and evaluate care for assigned patients while performing ongoing data collection and analysis before, during, and after hemodialysis treatments. Direct and provide safe delivery of hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with direct and ancillary staff, administering medications as prescribed and initiating emergency response measures when needed. Document patient learning needs to deliver education to patients and families, ensure correct laboratory collection procedures, and update nursing assessment plans through interdisciplinary collaboration. Serve as a resource for the health care team, participate in staff training, and advance through Clinical Advancement Program requirements. Requires minimum 9 months RN experience and 3 months hemodialysis experience; full-time role with physical demands including heavy lifting and prolonged standing.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
- Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to move, with assistance, machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs.
- Must be able to lift, move, and assist with ambulation of patients
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations with the same physical demands
- Must be able to work in a health care facility environment
- Must be able to interact with patients, facility/hospital staff and physicians
- Must be able to perform desk work and computer work
- Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Must be able to administer medications as prescribed
- Must be able to document appropriate medical justification and effectiveness
- Must be able to perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data
- Must be able to make adjustments or modifications to treatment plan
- Must be able to notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician as needed
- Must be able to assess, collaborate, and document patient/family's basic learning needs
- Must be able to provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
- Must be able to direct and provide all aspects of the daily provision of safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy
- Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
- Must be able to reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections
- Must be able to identify expected outcomes
- Must be able to update the nursing assessment and plan of care
- Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
- Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
- Must be able to delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians
- Must be able to participate in decision-making
- Must be able to participate in teaching
- Must be able to participate in leadership functions
- Must be able to participate in quality improvement activities
- Must be able to perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor
- Must be able to work with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses
- Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
- Must be able to participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
- Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
- Must be able to work in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations
