Job Summary

Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-, during-, and post-hemodialysis treatment, documenting findings in the medical record and adjusting treatment plans as indicated. Assess, collaborate, and document patient and family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education. Direct and provide all aspects of daily hemodialysis therapy delivery, administer medications per approved algorithms, and initiate emergency response measures. Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures while identifying expected outcomes and updating nursing assessment plans through interdisciplinary collaboration. Serve as a resource for the healthcare team, participate in staff training, and oversee Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, or LVNs after meeting CAP requirements. Requires minimum 9 months RN experience and 3 months hemodialysis experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
  • Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be able to lift 200 lbs. with assistance
  • Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to move patients and assist with ambulation
  • Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations with the same physical demands and working conditions
  • Must be able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels
  • Must be able to work in an environment with air temperature control
  • Must be able to interact with patients, facility/hospital staff and physicians
  • Must be able to perform desk work and computer work
  • Must be able to work in a health care facility
  • Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses
  • Must be able to perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre – during – post hemodialysis treatment
  • Must be able to document in the patient medical record
  • Must be able to make adjustments or modifications to treatment plan
  • Must be able to notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician as needed
  • Must be able to assess, collaborate, and document patient/family's basic learning needs
  • Must be able to provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Must be able to direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff, all aspects of the daily provision of safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis therapy
  • Must be able to administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
  • Must be able to document appropriate medical justification and effectiveness
  • Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
  • Must be able to participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
  • Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
  • Must be able to reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections
  • Must be able to identify expected outcomes
  • Must be able to document and update the nursing assessment and plan of care for assigned patients
  • Must be able to collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
  • Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
  • Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Must be able to work in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations
  • Must be able to delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians
  • Must be able to participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations
  • Must be able to provide clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation for an assigned group of patients

Desired Qualifications

  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
