Job Summary

Conduct daily hemodialysis therapy for assigned patients by assessing, planning interventions, and evaluating care outcomes while documenting data pre-, during-, and post-treatment. Administer medications per approved algorithms, ensure accurate laboratory collection and shipping, and educate patients and families on treatment modalities and transplant options. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessments and delegate tasks to direct patient care staff including LVNs, LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. Participate in staff training, orientation, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes within the End Stage Kidney Disease health care team. Requires current RN licensure, BLS certification, and at least 9 months of RN experience with a preference for hemodialysis background.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
  • Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to move, with assistance, machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift, move, and assist with ambulation of patients
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to work in a health care facility environment
  • Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
  • Must be able to travel to training sites or other facilities
  • Must be able to provide essential functions of this position in other locations
  • Must be able to perform essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor
  • Must be able to collaborate with direct and ancillary patient care staff
  • Must be able to administer medications as prescribed
  • Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
  • Must be able to participate in staff training and orientation of new staff
  • Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
  • Must be able to identify expected outcomes
  • Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
  • Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
  • Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Must be able to work in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job

Desired Qualifications

  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
