Job Summary
Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate care for assigned patients undergoing hemodialysis, including delegation to direct patient care staff. Collect and analyze pre-, during-, and post-treatment patient data to modify treatment plans and document outcomes. Administer medications per protocol, ensure correct laboratory processing, and initiate emergency response measures as needed. Provide education to patients and families regarding transplant options and treatment modalities while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and orientation. Perform essential functions involving heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and interaction with patients and facility staff in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policies.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current appropriate state licensure
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
- Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
- Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
- Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
- Must be able to lift 200 lbs. with assistance
- Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to move patients and assist with ambulation
- Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations with the same physical demands
- Must be able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels
- Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or in collaboration with other Registered Nurses
- Must be able to perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre – during – post hemodialysis treatment
- Must be able to assess, collaborate, and document patient/family's basic learning needs
- Must be able to administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
- Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
- Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
- Must be able to participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
- Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
- Must be able to identify expected outcomes, document and update the nursing assessment and plan of care
- Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
- Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
- Must be able to delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians
