Job Summary

Conduct daily hemodialysis therapy for assigned patients, including pre-, during-, and post-treatment data collection, treatment plan adjustments, and medication administration. Assess patient learning needs to provide education to patients and families, while collaborating with ancillary staff to ensure safe delivery of care. Document outcomes, update nursing assessments, and coordinate emergency responses as needed. Manage laboratory collection and shipping procedures, and serve as a resource for team training and orientation. Perform essential functions involving heavy lifting and prolonged standing in a clinical environment, adhering to Fresenius Kidney Care policies and state regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current appropriate state licensure
  • Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification
  • Must meet the practice requirements in the state in which he or she is employed
  • Must have a minimum of 9 months experience as a RN
  • Must have a minimum of 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN
  • Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be able to lift 200 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to move machines and equipment with assistance
  • Must be able to assist with patient ambulation
  • Must be able to move patients with assistance
  • Must be able to perform essential functions in other locations
  • Must be able to work in an environment with moderate noise levels
  • Must be able to work in an environment with air temperature control
  • Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor
  • Must be able to collaborate with direct and ancillary patient care staff
  • Must be able to document in the patient medical record
  • Must be able to notify Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician as needed
  • Must be able to provide initial and ongoing education to patients and family
  • Must be able to administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s)
  • Must be able to document appropriate medical justification and effectiveness
  • Must be able to initiate or assist with emergency response measures
  • Must be able to serve as a resource for health care team
  • Must be able to participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned
  • Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
  • Must be able to reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections
  • Must be able to identify expected outcomes
  • Must be able to update the nursing assessment and plan of care for assigned patients
  • Must be able to ensure patient awareness related to transplant and treatment modality options
  • Must be able to complete CAP requirements to advance
  • Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Must be able to delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs and Patient Care Technicians
  • Must be able to participate in decision-making
  • Must be able to participate in teaching
  • Must be able to participate in leadership functions
  • Must be able to participate in quality improvement activities
  • Must be able to provide and coordinate clinically competent care
  • Must be able to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate for an assigned group of patients
  • Must be able to make adjustments or modifications to treatment plan as indicated
  • Must be able to collect and analyze patient data pre – during – post hemodialysis treatment
  • Must be able to ensure correct laboratory collection, processing and shipping procedures are performed
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this position in other locations with the same physical demands and working conditions as described above
  • Must be able to perform all duties in accordance with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations

Desired Qualifications

  • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred)
